Welcome to JD's Realty & Auctions! We have a lifetime Artist's Legacy Auction - A Lifetime of Art - for your bidding pleasure! This estate is an artistic treasure trove of works of art on paper, on canvas, textile art and more.
In addition to some wonderful works of art, this estate features the most exciting collection of original Mid-Century Modern furniture that comes straight from the home of Mid-Century Modern, Denmark! Mr. & Mrs. Vaslow's collection was brought over First Generation, if you will, both when they immigrated and throughout their lifetime of international travel. This collection of MCM furninture includes pieces by the preeminent Danish Designer, Hans J. Wegner. "His [Wegner's] work, along with a concerted effort from several of his manufacturers, contributed to the international popularity of mid-century Danish design."
Mrs. Vaslow described herself as a Visual Artist and Tapestry Weaver. A March 2012 article on Mrs. Vaslow from The Oak Ridger says, "She was born in Copenhagen, Denmark, but moved permanently to America and has lived in Oak Ridge since 1957. Her mother was very talented in all kinds of embroideries, knitting and sewing, and from early childhood, taught Aase and her two sisters to use their hands working with knitting, sewing and crocheting. Beginning in second grade, Aase first made an apron, then a bag to carry her work. By fifth grade, she made a dress and fine embroidery. Cross-stitch embroidery is very popular, and mostly made on Danish linen. Each of the Scandinavian countries has traditional handcrafts, and although the designs are similar, each has their own particular style. The Danish Handcraft Guild has many designers; foremost is Gerda Bengtsson who is the author of several books on cross-stitch and who is well-known in the United States." This estate also features pieces and works of art from Mrs. Vaslow's husband, Fred who was the last surviving scientist from the Manhattan Project. Fred was himself a woodworking artist and a photographer who spent his time creating works in wood that decorated their home. Fred's woodworking tools will be also offered in this auction!
Don't miss out on this once in a lifetime opportunity to own a piece of original art from this great local artist! In addition to her own works of art, the Vaslow estate has some wonderful original art works from several other nationaly known artists.
